Bettino Ricasoli, the "Iron Baron," was Italy's second prime minister after Cavour. He was also a far-sighted wine entrepreneur, however, and a great promoter of the Chianti region. Since 1993 Francesco Ricasoli, the 32nd Baron of Brolio, has been at the helm of the family estate and winery, pursuing the goal of renewing the quality and personality of great Brolio wines, which interpret the unique characteristics of the land and its history. This Chianti del Barone was aged 90% in stainless steel and 10% in large French oak barrels; it has lush aromas of red and black cherries with hints of spice, and shows great fruit on the palate with a touch of inerality.
