Gaia is the primordial Greek goddess, the personification of Earth, and grandmother of the Titan Atlas.
Atlas’ daughters, known as the Hesperides tended many gardens planted in Gaia’s honor. Among the fruits found in these gardens were the sweet citrus fruits such as oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes and grapefruits.
